SERVICE INFORMATION
If an Altima exhibits oil leakage at the front of the engine, it may be caused by the O-ring seal between the timing cover and the block. The following
procedure describes the identification and repair for this incident.

Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line using the claims coding as shown.
O-Ring May Not Seal
The O-ring between the timing cover and block may not seal, allowing oil to leak out of the engine. This incident can be identified by observing the area
of the O-ring at the mating surface of the timing cover and cylinder block while the engine is running. The following procedure is to be used when this
incident occurs. It is not necessary to remove the cylinder head as described in the Flat Rate Manual.
Leak Identification
Front Cover O-ring Seal
Inspect the mating surface between the cylinder block and the front cover in the area of the O-ring seal. The seal is located between the 2nd and 3rd bolts
up from the bottom edge of the front cover on the rear side. If oily deposits are present, the area should be cleaned thoroughly before inspection in order
to isolate the origin of the leak. With the engine running, you will be able to see oil seeping from this area. Be sure the oil is coming from this area before
