2002 ALTIMA; SUNROOF WILL NOT CLOSE
DUE TO INTERFERENCE WITH WIND DEFLECTOR

APPLIED VEHICLE: 
All 2002 Altima (L31) - ONLY vehicles equipped with sunroof

SERVICE INFORMATION

If the sunroof on a 2002 Altima will not close, the cause may be interference between the sunroof and a damaged wind deflector assembly.

The wind deflector assembly is now available as a separate service part.

Refer to the Service Procedure for instructions on installing the new wind deflector assembly, if this incident should occur.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: 

Use suitable covers to protect vehicle paint, upholstery, etc. when performing this procedure.

Replace the wind deflector with the one listed in the Parts Information table as shown.

Wind Deflector Removal

1.

Press and hold the sunroof "open" button until the sunroof stops. Then, press and hold the "open" button again to move the sunroof to its
maximum open position.

NOTE:

Steps two and three below apply to both the left and right side of the wind deflector.

2.

Insert a small screwdriver between the sunroof slide rail and the outer portion of the wind deflector hinge (see Figure 1).

3.

Move the screwdriver towards the center of the vehicle to pry the outer portion of the wind deflector hinge off of the sunroof slide rail (see Figure
1).
