Radiator Fan Thermal Switch: Description and Operation

    These models use an engine temperature sensor, vehicle speed sensor, A/C switch and thermo control amplifier to input signals to the E.C.C.S. control
unit. The control unit uses these input signals to open and close the two coolant fan relays.
    With A/C off and engine coolant temperature below 201°F, the two cooling fans will not operate. When engine coolant is between 202°F and 210°F,
coolant fan relay No. 1 will close and the low speed coolant fan will come on. When engine coolant temperature is above 212°F, both No. 1 and No. 2
coolant fan relays will close and both the high and low speed coolant fans will come on.
    With A/C and blower switches on, evaporator outlet temperature above 46°F and engine coolant temperature below 201°F, both coolant fan relays will
close and both coolant fans will operate. If vehicle speed is over 50 mph, the high speed coolant fan relay will open and the high speed coolant fan will
turn off.
    With A/C and blower switches on, evaporator outlet temperature above 46°F and engine coolant temperature between 202°F and 210°F, both coolant
fan relays will close and both coolant fans will operate. If vehicle speed is over 50 mph, the high speed coolant fan will operate at LOW speed.
    With A/C and blower switches on, evaporator outlet temperature above 46°F and engine coolant temperature above 212°F, both coolant fan relays will
close and both coolant fans will operate.
    With A/C and blower switches on, evaporator outlet temperature between 37°F and 46°F, engine coolant temperature below 201°F, coolant fan relay
No. 1 will be closed and the low speed coolant fan will operate. If vehicle speed exceeds 50 mph, coolant fan will turn off.
    With A/C and blower switches on, evaporator outlet temperature between 37°F and 46°F, engine coolant temperature between 202°F and 210°F,
coolant fan relay No. 1 will be closed and the low speed coolant fan will operate.
    With A/C and blower switches on, evaporator outlet temperature between 37°F and 46°F, engine coolant temperature above 212°F, both coolant fan
relays will be closed and both coolant fans will operate.
