    Only the sealing parts of the gear assembly can be replaced, Fig. 8. The internal components of the steering gear must be replaced as an assembly.

Sector Shaft Oil Seal, Replace

1.

Remove steering gear and set stub shaft in straight ahead position, which is two turns plus 45° rotation from lock position on and 1984-86 Pickup
models or 1.85 turns from lock position on Pathfinder, Van and 1986-1/2-88 Pickup.

Remove bolts securing sector shaft cover and free sector shaft and cover by lightly tapping sector shaft with a suitable mallet.
