Remove both rear wheels and brake drums. Inspect the drum and shoe surfaces for good contact. Compare the brakes with those shown to
determine which type of rear brake is on the vehicle (Figure 1).

Measure the brake drum inside diameter and the brake shoe outer diameter at the center (Figure 2).

Rotate the star wheel on the adjuster until the brake shoe outer diameter is 0.25-0.4 mm smaller than the brake drum inside diameter.

Install the brake drums and wheels.

5.

Use the automatic parking brake adjuster to make the final adjustment as follows:

For vehicles with LT26B rear brakes, apply and release the parking brake lever about 20 times.

For vehicles with DS22, DS25B, DS25C or DS25D rear brakes, apply the service brake about 15 times while driving in reverse.

6.

Road test the vehicle. If brake pull still exists, proceed to step 3.

Brake Rotor and Pad Break-In Procedure

Step 3: Brake rotor and load break-in procedure - The factory applies a protective coating to the brake rotor to prevent corrosion during shipping. Before
the coating wears off, it can cause brake pull or diminished performance. This coating normally wears off after about 50 normal stops.

New brake pad performance gradually increases during the break-in period. Peak performance is usually reached after about 50 normal stops, about the
point that the protective coating wears off the rotors.

If the vehicle continues to pull after suspension and brake adjustments, perform the following procedure to break-in the pads and rotors:

1.

Select a road with no interfering traffic. Perform 10 moderate brake stops from 55-0 mph. There may be a small amount of smoke from the front
brakes on the later stops. This is normal. Large amounts of smoke means that the brake stops are too hard.

2.

After the tenth stop, cool the brakes as follows:

Drive 15-20 miles at normal speed without stopping. OR

Park the vehicle for 2-3 hours.

3.

Road test the vehicle again after the brakes have cooled. This procedure should remove the rotor coating and break-in the pads to allow peak
performance.
