Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

    When replacing evaporator, add 2.7 oz. of new refrigerant oil on 300ZX or 2.4 oz. on all other models.

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C system.

2.

Disconnect refrigerant lines to evaporator, plug lines and open fittings, then remove grommet and cover from evaporator tubes.

3.

Remove steering column shroud and package tray, if equipped.

4.

Disconnect speedometer cable, radio antenna lead and wiring harness connectors to instrument panel assembly.

5.

Remove instrument panel mounting bolts at base of windshield, above base of parking brake lever, inside glove box, and at each end of panel, then
remove panel assembly.

6.

Disconnect wiring harness connectors and control cable at air intake housing, remove mounting bolts, Fig. 3, then remove housing assembly.

7.

Disconnect wiring harness connectors to evaporator case, remove mounting bolts, then remove evaporator case assembly.

8.

Remove clips securing evaporator case, lift off upper case taking care not to damage thermo control switch sensor, then remove evaporator
assembly from case.

9.

Remove insulation and clamp securing expansion valve sensor to evaporator outlet, then disconnect and remove expansion valve.

10.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: 

a. Make sure that expansion valve and thermo control switch sensors are properly positioned.
b. Adjust air intake door cable.
c. Evacuate and recharge system, then check for leaks.
