Valve Spring: Testing and Inspection

SQUARENESS

1. Dimension "S" is squareness (out-of-square). Measure dimension "S":

The outer spring

Intake:  less than 2.5 mm (0.098 inch).
Exhaust:  less than 2.3 mm (0.091 inch).

The inner spring

Intake:  less than 2.3mm (0.091 inch).
Exhaust:  less than 2.1 mm (0.083 inch).

2. If it exceeds the limit, replace the spring.

PRESSURE

Check valve spring pressure at the specified height.
Standard

Outer

Intake:  604.1 N (135.8 lbs.) at 37.6 mm (1.480 inch).
Exhaust:  640.4 N (144.0 lbs.) at 34.1 mm (1.343 inch).

Inner

Intake:  284.4 N (63.9 lbs.) at 32.6 mm (1.283 inch).
Exhaust:  328.5 N (73.9 lbs.) at 29.1 mm (1.146 inch).

Limit

Outer

Intake:  567.8 N (127.7 lbs.) at 37.6 mm (1.480 inch).
Exhaust:  620.8 N (139.6 lbs.) at 34.1 mm (1.343 inch).

Inner

Intake:  266.8 N (60.0 lbs.) at 32.6 mm (1.283 inch).
Exhaust:  318.7 N (71.7 lbs.) at 29.1 mm (1.146 inch).

If it exceeds the limit, replace spring.
