You remove the "Axle Installation Seal Protector" once the axle shaft is approximately "90%" inserted.

The axle shaft is fully seated into the axle housing and the bearings turn smoothly.

5.

Install the new nuts (contained in the kit) on the backing plate studs (see Figure D5):

Do NOT use old or previously installed nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 50 ft-lbs.

6.

Remove the Plastic Plug from the wheel cylinder threaded hole (see Figure D6) and remove any dust or debris (from the hole) with a clean,
lint-free shop rag.

7.

Remove the rubber dust cap from the brake line (see Figure D6).

8.

Re-install the brake line to the wheel cylinder using a flare nut wrench.

9.

Re-install the parking brake cable.

For 2001 Frontier/Xterra, make sure you install the new clip (contained in the kit) to hold on the parking brake rod pin.
Do Not reuse the old clip.

10.

Re-install the brake drum and wheel.

11.

Bleed the hydraulic brake system:
