2000 FRONTIER AND XTERRA EGR DELETION, V-6 ENGINE

2000 Frontier (D22) - V6 Engine Only
2000 Xterra (WD22) - V6 Engine Only

Vehicles built on or after October 6, 1999

SERVICE INFORMATION
2000 Frontier and Xterra vehicles with V6 engines built on or after October 6, 1999 no longer use an EGR valve. The intake manifold port formerly used
by the EGR valve is now covered with a blanking plate. These vehicles meet all applicable emissions standards as indicated by the underhood emissions
label. If the conditions listed below occur, review the indicated cause and take the appropriate action:

Condition 1: 
The MIL is "On" with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0400 [EGR Function (Close)] and/or P1400 (EGRC Solenoid Valve) stored in the ECM.

Cause 1: 
Determine if the wrong ECM was installed during the vehicle's service life. Installation of an ECM calibrated for earlier production vehicles with an
EGR system in an applied vehicle will result in a MIL "On" with DTC P0400 and/or P1400 present.

Action To Take:

1.

Verify that the vehicle was built on or after October 6, 1999 and has a V6 engine.

2.

Check the ECM part number using CONSULT.

3.

If the ECM part number is 23710-55***, then an ECM manufactured for earlier production vehicles with an EGR system was installed during the
vehicle's service life.

4.

Replace the ECM with the latest ECM for EGR delete, which will have a part number of 23710-45***. Refer to the Parts Catalog for the correct
application.

Condition 2: 
The vehicle fails IM Emission Testing due to a "missing" EGR valve.

Cause 2: 
The emissions test technician has misread the vehicle's underhood emission certification label.

Action To Take:

1.

Inform the Test Station that the manufacturer has deleted EGR as an emission certified running production change.

2.

Refer the test technician to the under hood emission certification label for any questions regarding lack of an EGR system.
