VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN: 
1992-1993 MAXIMA AIRBAG SENSOR REPLACEMENT

General Information

AUTHORIZATION

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, authorizes Nissan Motor Corporation, U.S.A. (NMC) to conduct a recall campaign on certain 1992 and early
1993 Nissan Maxima passenger sedans.

INTRODUCTION

Nissan has decided to implement a field service action to replace the air bag tunnel sensor on certain Maxima models. Although the system is operating
properly as designed, a new replacement sensor for the air bag system will be installed to reduce the potential inconvenience and cost associated with the
inflation of an air bag when it is not needed and to reduce the risk of minor injury to the driver from an inflating air bag. Approval has been obtained
from NHTSA to proceed with this action and report it as a voluntary safety recall. This will help maintain the high level of consumer satisfaction and
confidence in the safety of the Maxima.

All owners of Nissan Maximas built before September 14, 1992 will be notified by a letter. A copy of the letter is included with this bulletin.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS

Nissan has assigned identification number 94V-007 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any nature
dealing with this campaign.

NUMBER OF VEHICLES POTENTIALLY AFFECTED:

Approximately 65,000.

Dealer Responsibility

It is the dealer's responsibility to check each vehicle falling within the range of this campaign which for any reason enters the service department.
This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in dealer inventory. Federal law
requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in
civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The dealer must install the campaign label next to the underhood emissions label when the installation has been completed. A supply of labels is
included with this bulletin. Additional labels can be obtained from your regional office.

All 1992 and 1993 Maximas with an air bag built before September 14, 1992, with VINs before:  JN1HJ01F ** T 085449 and JN1EJ01F ** T 406820

Special Customer Assistance Features

Nissan authorizes Dealers to wash and detail each vehicle presented for this campaign. Nissan also authorizes Dealers to provide customers with a free
loaner/rental car for 24 hours should alternate transportation be required.

SRS Airbag Tunnel Sensor Replacement Procedure

Before servicing the SRS system, turn the ignition switch "OFF," disconnect the battery ground cable and wait for at least 10 minutes before
disconnecting the SRS harness connectors.
