Crankshaft Position Sensor: Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Sensor Inspection

1.

Remove crank angle sensor from engine, leaving electrical harness connected.

2.

Visually inspect signal plate for dirt or physical damage.

3.

Disconnect power transistor electrical connector.

Sensor Testing

4.

Turn ignition on.

5.

Using a DVOM, carefully backprobe connector terminals A and B individually while rotating sensor by hand.

Voltage varies between 1 and 5 volts, sensor normal. End of test.
Voltage does not vary between 1 and 5 volts, replace crank angle sensor.
