1.

Disassemble transaxle side of driveshaft as follows:
a. Install driveshaft in a suitable soft-jawed vise.
b. Remove and discard boot bands, Fig. 3.
c. Draw alignment marks on slide joint housing and inner race for assembly reference.
d. Remove snap ring C, then the ball cage, inner race and balls as a unit.
e. Remove snap ring B, then slide boot off of shaft.

Disassemble wheel side of driveshaft as follows:
a. Draw alignment marks on driveshaft and joint for assembly reference.
b. Separate joint assembly from shaft, then remove boot.
c. Remove dust shield, then the snap ring.
d. Press support bearing assembly out of shaft.
e. Press support bearing out of shaft.

Front

1.

Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.

2.

Unfasten brake caliper assembly, leaving brake line attached.

3.

Remove tie-rod ball joint from knuckle, then separate driveshaft from steering knuckle by tapping on driveshaft. When removing driveshafts,
cover boots with cloth to prevent damage to them. 

4.

On models with automatic transaxle, if replacing both driveshafts, remove righthand driveshaft before removing lefthand driveshaft.

5.

On all models, use a large screwdriver to pry driveshaft out of transaxle.

6.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install new oil seal in transaxle.
b. Use oil seal protector tool Nos. KV38106800 and KV38106700 or equivalents, when inserting driveshaft into transaxle.
c. After inserting driveshaft, press-fit circular clip into groove of transaxle side gear. After installing clip, try to pull flange out of side joint by

hand. If flange pulls out, circular clip is not properly installed into side gear.
