J30 AIR CONDITIONER FREON LEAK

Built before JN1HJ01P**T369699 (September 13, 1989 production)

Some J30 vehicles manufactured before the applied VIN may experience loss of Freon from the air conditioning system.  This leak may be from the low
pressure hose (hose between the evaporator and the compressor).

The most likely leakage areas on the low pressure hose are at:

1.

The crimp at the end of the hose.  This may be visually identified by looking for signs of compressor oil leakage near the crimp.

2.

On the hose right under the rubber tube covering the low pressure hose. Small pin holes or small cuts may be visible.  The Freon leakage for this
mode is sometimes so small that a leak detector will not be able to detect the leak in a Freon saturated environment.

In some rare cases, the high pressure hose (hose between the compressor and the condensor) may also have some leakage.

Once the Freon leak is identified on either of these hoses, the incident can be resolved by replacing the affected hose with a countermeasure part as listed
below.
