APPLIED DATE:
Vehicles built before February 4, 1998
TRANSMISSION:
Automatic transmission only
SERVICE INFORMATION
If a 1995-98 applied Maxima exhibits a steady rattle noise from the front dash area during the vehicle conditions listed below, the cause may be uneven
air flow through the power brake check valve:
^
Vehicle stopped with engine idling
^
Automatic transmission in gear
^
Brake pedal depressed
^
All accessories off
To eliminate the rattle noise, new power brake check valve hoses are now available. The new hoses are longer and dampen air flow to prevent the power
brake check valve from rattling.
Use the following service procedure to diagnose and repair this incident.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Verify the rattle noise is coming from the power brake check valve under the conditions listed in "Service Information".
A.
If the rattle noise is coming from the power brake check valve, proceed with step 2.
B.
If the rattle noise is not coming from the power brake check valve, look for other causes for the noise.
2.
Under the conditions listed in "Service Information", apply the parking brake, then release the brake pedal.
CAUTION: Conduct test in an open area and use wheel chocks to prevent unexpected vehicle movement.
