Wheel Bearing: Adjustments

1.

Raise and support rear of vehicle and remove rear wheel.

2.

Torque wheel locknut to 18-25 ft. lbs.

3.

Turn wheel hub several times in both directions to seat bearing.

4.

Loosen wheel bearing nut and retorque to 6.5-8.7 ft. lbs.

5.

Turn wheel hub several times in both directions to seat bearing.

6.

Torque wheel bearing nut to 6.5-8.7 ft. lbs.

7.

Align cotter pin hole in spindle with slit in locknut. If holes do not align, tighten locknut slightly.

8.

Measuring wheel bearing torque required to start rotation. Using a spring scale hooked on a hub bolt, measure starting torque. Starting torque
should be 3.1 lbs. maximum with new grease seal or 2.4 lbs. maximum with used grease seal.
