Pathfinder 2WD V6-4.0L (VQ40DE) (2009)
WARNING:
To avoid the danger of being scalded, do not drain engine oil when engine is hot.
CAUTION:

Perform this procedure when engine is cold.

Do not spill engine oil on drive belts.
-
Do not spill engine coolant on drive belts.
1. Remove engine room cover with power tool. Refer to See: Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Engine Cover.
2. Remove air duct and resonator assembly. Refer to See: Tune-up and Engine Performance Checks/Air Cleaner Housing/Service and
Repair/Removal And Installation.
3. Drain engine oil. Refer to .
4. Drain engine coolant. Refer to See: Cooling System/Coolant/Service and Repair.
5. Remove front final drive (4WD models). Refer to See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Differential Assembly/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Front Final Drive R180A.
6. Disconnect steering gear lower joint shaft bolt and steering gear nuts and bolts, position out of the way. Refer to See: Steering and
Suspension/Steering/Steering Gear/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.
7. Remove starter motor. Refer to See: Starting and Charging/Starting System/Starter Motor/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.
8. Disconnect A/T fluid cooler tube brackets and position out of the way. Refer to See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic
Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Transmission Assembly/Exploded View (2WD models), See:
Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Transmission Assembly/Exploded
View (4WD models).
9. Remove oil filter, as necessary. Refer to See: Oil Filter/Service and Repair.
10. Remove oil cooler. Refer to See: Oil Cooler/Service and Repair/Removal And Installation.
11. Remove oil pan (lower). Refer to "Removal and Installation".
12. Remove oil strainer.
13. Remove transmission joint bolts which pierce oil pan (upper). Refer to See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic
Transmission/Transaxle/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Transmission Assembly/Exploded View
14. Remove rear cover plate.
15. Loosen oil pan (upper) bolts with power tool in reverse order as shown.

Insert Tool between oil pan (upper) and lower cylinder block.
Tap (1) Tool to insert it and then slide (2) it by tapping on the side as shown.
