BRAKE SQUEAK NOISE
 
SERVICE INFORMATION
 
If a customer complains of a squeak noise from the brakes when stopping at speeds of 10 to 30 mph, particularly if the noise is described as louder in the
first few pedal applications after a cold start as would occur in the morning, the noise is most likely from the rear drum brake shoes, although it might
sometimes be from the front disc brake pads.  In either case countermeasure parts are available to resolve such incidents.
 
The new parts only apply to vehicles with a squeak noise.  The existing front pads/rear shoes part numbers should be used for brake service which is not
related to these types of squeaky brake concerns.
 
SERVICE PROCEDURE
 
1.

To confirm the location and source of a brake squeak, roll the right window down if possible, then drive the vehicle next to a wall at 10 - 30 mph. 
Touch the brakes lightly and listen for a high pitched sound from the rear or front wheels to isolate the incident.

2.

Replace the incident rear drum shoes or front disc pads, left and right, with the applicable countermeasure parts listed below.

If applicable,  submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line using the claims coding as shown.

AND/OR (Submit either claim as a stand-alone, both if front pads and rear shoes are done)

Subject a second Primary Failed Part (PP) line using the claims coding as shown.
