APPLIED VEHICLE(S):
All 1996-97 Pathfinder (R50) with 4-wheel drive only
SERVICE INFORMATION
If you have a 1996-97 4WD Pathfinder with a poor start condition, the malfunction indicator light (MIL) on and/or a leaking in-line engine heater, the
cause may be the lower radiator hose engine heater installed in the vehicle. The MIL on condition occurs due to a significant temperature variation
between the coolant in the engine block and the heater area.
To prevent this incident, install the 2WD engine heater in the 4WD vehicles.
The heater is installed in the hole for the rear core plug on the left (driver) side of the engine block. To gain access to this core plug, you must disconnect
the front propeller shaft and remove the front differential housing.
