Inspect the left and right exhaust pipe front brackets for cracks (see Figure 2).  If the brackets are cracked or broken proceed with step 3.

Using a metal cutting saw, trim the pieces as follows:

Cut and remove the brackets on both sides of the exhaust tube as close to the exhaust tubes as possible (see Figure 3).

CAUTION:  

Cut only the brackets, not the exhaust tubes.  Damage to the exhaust tubes could cause an exhaust leak.

b.

Cut and remove the flange on both sides of the heat insulator (see Figure 3).

CAUTION:  

Before cutting, temporarily install a hose clamp around the heat shield/exhaust tube to steady it.  Remove the clamp when the cutting is done.
