1996-98 PATHFINDER WIND OR RATTLE NOISE FROM ROOF RACK

APPLIED VEHICLE:
All 1996-98 Pathfinder (R50)

SERVICE INFORMATION
 
If a 1996-98 Pathfinder exhibits a wind or rattle noise from the roof rack, the cause may be the rubber insert separating from one or more of the roof rack
cross member(s). 
 
A new rubber insert is now available to correct this incident.  The new insert is thicker and longer than the old insert.
 
Use the following service procedure to correct this incident.

Inspect all roof rack cross members for rubber inserts that show signs of separation or that have already separated from the cross members (see
Figure 1).

A.

If any one of the cross members have a rubber insert that shows signs of separation or that has already separated from the cross member,
proceed with step 2.

B.

If none of the rubber inserts show signs of separation or have separated from the cross members, look for other causes for the noise.
