If there is no damage to the threads, remove the bound bumper Use brake cleaner and a shop rag to clean any rubber residue from the shock shaft.

Inspect the shock for leakage. If there is a light film of oil or silicone on the shock body, you should check the service history for prior repair work
on the front shocks, e.g. lubrication. Some technicians have attempted to eliminate front shock squeak noises by spraying the bound bumper with
silicone or light oils. See Figure 29. If there appears to be heavy oil leakage and no prior repairs, then clean the shock shaft with a rag and cycle
the shock in and out several times. It there is a heavy coating of oil on the shock shaft and the shock is wet, replace the shock.
