1996-97 PATHFINDER A/T SHIFTER WILL NOT MOVE OUT OF
"PARK"

APPLIED VEHICLE(S):

1996-97 Pathfinder (R50)

SERVICE INFORMATION

If the A/T shifter in a 1996-97 Pathfinder will not move out of "park" in cold temperature conditions, the cause may be hardened grease at the end of the
interlock cable near the ignition key cylinder.

Perform the following procedure to resolve this incident.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Remove the steering column plastic covers to expose the key cylinder area.

2.

Remove the interlock cable from the key cylinder.

3.

Move the shift lever to "1" range to expose the inner cable.

4.

Clean the grease from the end of the interlock cable and key cylinder.

5.

Re-install the cable and replace the covers.
