SERVICE INFORMATION
 
Introduction
 
In severe cold weather (below -30°F), some 1996-97 Pathfinder vehicles with A/T fluid coolers may experience insufficient lubrication of the automatic
transmission.  If the condition occurs for some time, the automatic transmission may be damaged.  To prevent this, the Seattle VPC has begun
disconnecting the A/T oil cooler and installing countermeasure A/T control units prior to shipping Pathfinders to Alaska dealers.
 
Alaska Dealer Responsibility
 
Alaska dealers receiving Pathfinders that have had this procedure performed must:
 
1.

Include the owner information card (below) with the owner's manual information.

2.

Inform a new owner upon vehicle delivery of this A/T oil cooler disconnect and the towing recommendations as described on the information card.

In addition, include this information card with any Pathfinder in dealer inventory or Pathfinders in for service that may already have had the A/T oil
cooler disconnected.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Your Pathfinder is equipped with an auxiliary automatic transmission cooler to safeguard the transmission during heavy load conditions in hot climates. 
This cooler is not required under climatic conditions found in Alaska.  Nissan has determined that under extreme cold conditions below -30°F the 
transmission cooler may actually prevent your transmission from receiving adequate lubrication which can cause severe transmission damage. 
Therefore, the transmission cooler has been by-passed on this Pathfinder.

If, in the future, you decide to tow a trailer in excess of 3500 pounds gross weight in temperatures exceeding 90°F, please request that your dealer
reconnect the transmission cooler. This reconnect will be performed at no cost to you.

Please keep this information card with your owner's manual for future reference for you and any subsequent owners.

INFORMATION FOR SERVICING NISSAN DEALER
 
If a customer requests the transmission cooler reconnection, reference the 1996 service manual page AT-201 or the 1997 service manual page AT-213
for the proper hose routing.
