Wheel Bearing: Testing and Inspection
Rear Wheel Bearing

NOTE:  The wheel bearing does not require maintenance. If any of the following symptoms are noted, replace wheel bearing assembly.

Growling noise is emitted from wheel bearing during operation.

Wheel hub bearing drags or turns roughly. This occurs when turning hub by hand after bearing lock nut is tightened to specified torque.

1. Check axial end play. The axial end play is 0 mm (0 inch) or less.
2. Check wheel bearing for damage, seizure, rust or rough operation. Ensure that the wheel hub bearings operate smoothly. 
3. Check tightening torque of wheel bearing lock nut. It should be 245 - 314 Nm (181 - 231 ft. lbs.).
4. Replace wheel bearing assembly if there is axial end play or wheel bearing does not turn smoothly.
5. Replace as necessary.
