SERVICE INFORMATION
If a customer indicates the automatic transmission flares on the 1-2 shift when accelerating hard from a stop and then backing off on the throttle, the
Transmission Control Module (TCM) may need to be replaced.
Should a customer advise this condition exists, use the Service Procedure in this bulletin to verify the incident, and (if verified), correct by replacing the
TCM as indicated.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Use CONSULT-II to confirm there are no transmission codes stored. If codes are stored, correct as necessary before proceeding.
2.
Check transmission fluid level. Adjust as necessary before proceeding.
3.
Verify the incident by performing the following test drive in an open area:
A.
Accelerate from a full stop with 1/2 to 3/4 throttle application.
B.
As the rpm reaches 3000 to 3500, release the throttle slightly.
C.
Verify the transmission flares into 2nd gear.
4.
Install the replacement Transmission Control Module (TCM) listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section below.
5.
Repeat the test drive in steps 3A through 3C to confirm the incident has been resolved.
