    These valves, Figs. 12,& 40. are attached to the thermostat housing and monitor the temperature of the engine coolant. The valve shaft is propelled by
the thermal expansion force of wax which depends on temperature. This action closes or opens the valve, causing the EGR control vacuum line to be
closed or exposed to the atmosphere. When the valve opens, air from the carburetor vacuum signal line is introduced and, because the venturi vacuum
transducer valve and EGR valve diaphragm are exposed to the atmosphere, the EGR operation will not function.
