STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY

SERVICE INFORMATION

Some cars equipped with alloy wheels may exhibit steering wheel shimmy. One cause may be lack of wheel centering when using alloy wheel lug nuts.
To correct this condition, use the following procedure to center the wheel on the hub:

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

First, remove the wheels from the vehicle. Then perform an off-car static/dynamic balance of the tire/wheel assembly, using a lug bolt
adaptor.

2.

Re-install the wheels onto the vehicle, positioning the front hub with the studs at 12, 3, 6 and 9 O'clock positions as shown:

Temporarily mount the wheel on the hub lugs, using two steel wheel lug nuts at the 12 (1) O'clock and 6 (2) O'clock positions.
