Ball Joint: Service and Repair
Lower Ball Joint
1.
Raise and support front of vehicle and remove wheel.
2.
On 2WD Pickup, proceed as follows:
a. Remove torsion bar spring anchor bolt.
b. Remove dust cover and snap ring from anchor arm.
c. Slide anchor arm rearward, then remove torsion bar spring and torque arm.
3.
On 4WD Pickup and Pathfinder, remove torque arm attaching nuts, then the torsion bar spring with torque arm.
4.
On all models, remove lower shock absorber attaching bolt.
5.
Remove ball joint from knuckle spindle or lower link.
6.
Disconnect stabilizer connecting rod and tension or compression rod from lower link.
7.
Press bushing out of lower link.
8.
Reverse procedure to install.
