Vacuum Pump: Service and Repair

VACUUM PUMP

REPLACE

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Remove oil return hose and drain oil from vacuum pump. Rotate alternator pulley clockwise to remove any oil accumulation in vacuum
pump.

3.

Remove remaining vacuum and oil hoses.

4.

Remove vacuum pump from alternator.

5.

Reverse procedure to install.

VACUUM PUMP SERVICE

1.

Remove center plate to pump housing attaching screws, then separate center plate and pump housing.

Disassemble rotor, vane and vacuum pump housing, Fig. 1.

3.

Remove connector assemblies.

4.

Clean all parts in suitable solvent.

5.

Check for wear and/or scratches on housing, rotor and center plate. Replace parts as necessary.
