Timing Chain: Service and Repair
After removing timing chain, do not turn crankshaft and camshaft separately, or damage to the valves may occur.

1. Drain coolant from radiator and block, then remove oil pan.
2. Remove compressor drive, alternator drive and power steering pump drive belts.
3. Remove power steering pump bracket and air cleaner.
4. Support front of engine and remove mounting bracket.
5. Remove water pump, chain tensioner from front cover, rocker cover and spark plugs, Fig. 5.
6. Rotate crankshaft so that the piston of the number one cylinder is at TDC of its compression stroke, then remove the crankshaft pulley.
7. Remove the front cover, then remove the camshaft sprocket bolt without allowing the camshaft to rotate.
8. Remove the chain guides, camshaft sprocket, crankshaft sprocket and timing chain.
