Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

Idle Switch Test

REMOVAL
1.

Turn the ignition key off.

2.

Remove the air cleaner assembly.

3.

Disconnect the idle switch and throttle sensor connectors.

4.

Remove the 2 bolts securing the unit to the throttle chamber and remove the unit.

INSTALLATION AND ADJUSTMENT
1.

Install the unit to the throttle shaft, aligning the flat area on the shaft with the flat area on the unit.

2.

Install the screws and tighten slightly.

3.

Reconnect the throttle sensor connector.

4.

Plug the vacuum hoses leading to the air cleaner.

5.

Start the engine and warm to operating temperature.

6.

Connect an ohm meter or continuity tester between terminals A and B.

7.

Connect a tachometer to the engine.

8.

Raise the engine rpm to 2000 rpm and slowly lower to idle.

9.

Confirm that continuity does not exist until engine rpm reaches idle speed +250 ± 150.

10. If not within specified range, loosen the two securing screws and rotate switch until within range.
11. Tighten screws and recheck.
12. Install the air cleaner assembly and vacuum hoses.
