Brake Bleeding: Service and Repair

CAUTION:

Carefully monitor brake fluid level at master cylinder during bleeding operation.

If master cylinder is suspected to have air inside, bleed air from master cylinder first. 

1. Fill reservoir with new "DOT 3" brake fluid. Make sure it is full at all times while bleeding air out of system.
2. Place a container under master cylinder to avoid spillage of brake fluid.
3. For models with ABS, turn ignition switch "OFF" and disconnect ABS actuator connectors or battery ground cable.
4. Bleed air in the following order:

Without ABS
a. Right rear brake
b. Left front brake
c. Left rear brake
d. Right front brake
With ABS
a. Left front brake
b. Right front brake
c. Left rear brake
d. Right rear brake

5. Connect a transparent vinyl tube to air bleeder valve. Place the other end in a clear container partially filled with clean DOT 3 brake fluid.
6. Fully depress brake pedal several times.
7. With brake pedal depressed, open air bleeder valve to release trapped air.
8. Close air bleeder valve.
9. Release brake pedal slowly.

10. Repeat until all air is expelled and clear brake fluid comes out of air bleeder valve.
11. Torque front disc air bleeder valves to 17 - 24 Nm (12 - 17 ft. lb.).
12. Torque rear drum air bleeder valves to 7 - 9 Nm (61 - 78 inch lbs.).
