Wheel Bearing: Testing and Inspection
Rear Wheel Bearing
1. Check axial end play. The axial end play is 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch) or less.
2. Check wheel hub bearing for damage, seizure, rust or rough operation. Ensure that the wheel hub bearings operate smoothly.
3. Check tightening torque of wheel bearing lock nut. It should be 196 - 284 Nm (145 - 210 ft. lbs.).
4. If axial end play is not within specification, or wheel hub bearing does not turn smoothly, replace wheel hub bearing.
5. Wheel hub bearing does not require maintenance. If any of the following occurs, replace wheel hub bearing.
a. Growling noise is emitted from wheel hub bearing during operation.
b. Wheel hub bearing drags or turns roughly. This occurs when turning hub by hand after bearing lock nut is tightened to specified torque.
c. Rear sensor rotor is damaged.
