Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Component Inspection

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR

With CONSULT-II

1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Stop engine and turn ignition switch "ON".

3. Select "DATA MONITOR" mode with CONSULT-II.

4. Check voltage of "THRTL POS SEN".

Voltage measurement must be made with throttle position sensor installed in vehicle

If NG, adjust closed throttle position sensor. Refer to: "Basic Inspection".  See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Testing
and Inspection/Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview/Initial Inspection (Basic Inspection)

5. If it is impossible to adjust closed throttle position switch in "Basic Inspection", replace throttle position sensor.

Without CONSULT-II

1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Stop engine and turn ignition switch "ON".

3. Check voltage between ECM terminal 23 (Throttle position sensor signal) and ground.
