SERVICE INFORMATION
If an applied vehicle exhibits one of the following symptoms, use of a specific replacement ECM as described in this bulletin may address the incident.
^
Rotten egg smell from the exhaust
1996-97 Model Year
^
Cold engine idle fluctuation
1997-98 Model Year
^
Hard to start, cold
1997-98 Model Year
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Identify the Incident
^
If a Quest demonstrates a sulfur or "rotten egg" odor coming from the tailpipe, it may be due to high levels of sulfur in the fuel. Do not replace the
catalytic converter. The countermeasure ECM with the part number listed below will minimize the odor in most cases. If the fuel sulfur content is
high some odor may still occur.
^
Use the ECM with the part number listed below to eliminate the following symptoms: During the first thirty (30) seconds of initial startup (cold
engine only), after a P to D shift as the vehicle begins to roll, the idle fluctuates 1200 to 1800 rpm; and once the throttle is depressed or a short time
has passed (30-120 sec.), the symptom disappears.
^
If the engine is hard to start or dies on initial start-up when both the engine and ambient temperatures are cold, use of the ECM with the part number
listed below will generally reduce the occurrence of the incident.
