5. Use special tool J-50278 to check the retaining nut for tightness.

^ Make sure the nut is tight.

^ Extreme force is not needed to tighten the nut.

^ The nut will be secured by installation of the lock plate.

6. Install the lock plate over the pinion shaft retaining nut as shown.

^ Lock plate must be seated against the top of the pinion housing (see Figures 6 and 7).
