Crankshaft: Service and Repair

CYLINDER HEAD

    Reverse disassembly procedure to assemble, installing valve springs with narrow pitch of spring toward head.

Install crankshaft main bearings and caps and tighten in sequence shown in Fig. 27 to specifications. If crankshaft endplay was out of specification
when measured, replace the thrust bearing.

Install piston rings as shown in Fig. 28, then install connecting rod bearings with oil holes aligned. Install piston and rod assemblies into proper
cylinder and torque rod bolts to 10-12 ft. lbs. plus an additional 35-40° or to 17-21 ft. lbs. Piston skirt diameter (A) should be 2.9911-2.9915 inch
standard piston and dimension (a) .374 inch, Fig. 29.

Connecting rod side clearance should be .0079-.0185 inch. If not, replace connecting rod or crankshaft.
