Crankshaft Position Sensor: Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Crank Angle Sensor Testing

1.

Remove the crank angle sensor from the engine.

2.

Disconnect all of the ignition wires from the distributor cap and turn the ignition switch ON.

3.

Using a volt meter, check voltage between terminal 1 and ground while rotating it slowly. Compare readings to those in the image.

4.

Using a volt meter, check voltage between terminal 2 and ground while rotating it slowly. Compare readings to those in the image. 

NOTE: This test may set Code 11. Be sure to clear the ECU 's memory after repairs are finished.

Signal Plate Inspection

5.

Visually inspect the signal plate for damage or dust.

Replace the sensor if it fails the above test.
