APPLIED VEHICLE(S):
1991-93 Sentra (B13)
APPLIED ENGINE # (S):
GA16DE; SR20DE
SERVICE INFORMATION
On some Sentra vehicles, driveability incidents, such as hesitation, power loss, poor fuel economy, or black exhaust smoke, may be noted. On some of
the referenced Sentras, additionally, the "Check Engine Light" may be illuminated (intermittently or continuously) or Code 45 may be stored in the
Electronic Control Module's (ECM) "Self-Diagnosis" section.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
If any of the above-listed symptoms are reported, perform the following Inspections and Service Operations:
NOTE:
All tests should be performed with the engine idling. Engine temperature should be warm.
1.
Gently move the Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS) harness and connector in all directions while observing engine idle. If idle speed or
characteristics change when harness or connector is moved, incident may be caused by poor contact at the connector pins.
2.
Inspect the MAFS ground voltage between connector F6, Pin "C" (white wire) and the engine ground. Place the Digital Volt Meter's positive [+]
lead at F6. Pin "C" and the negative [-] lead to the engine ground. The voltage reading should be < or equal to 0.009 volts DC.
3.
a.
Disconnect the MAFS harness connector (F6) at the MAFS
b.
Using Kent-Moore tool J38751-305, enter the center of Pin "C" and release locking tab.
c.
Carefully push connector and wire out through the back side of the connector.
d.
Cut off the original pin connector and remove approximately 1/4" of insulation from the wire.
e.
Using black, 16-18 gauge wire, route one end of the wire through the connector boot.
