Control Arm: Service and Repair

INSPECTION

    Check ball joint for play. If ball stud is worn, there is excessive play in axial direction or joint is hard to swing, replace lower ball joint.

1.

Raise and support vehicle.

2.

Remove tie rod ball joint.

3.

Remove wheel bearing locknut.

4.

Separate driveshaft from knuckle by tapping driveshaft end with a suitable hammer. Use caution not to damage driveshaft boots.

5.

Remove stabilizer bar attaching bolt from transverse link.

6.

Separate lower ball joint stud from knuckle using a suitable tool.

7.

Remove transverse link bracket attaching bolts, then transverse link bracket.

8.

Remove remaining transverse link assembly attaching bolt, then the transverse link and ball joint assembly.

9.

Reverse procedure to install.
