Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) Heater: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: Testing for this system on 1984 Federal models is performed while doing a complete diagnostic check on the electronically controlled 

carburetor engine.

1.

Check continuity between terminals of mixture heater, replacing carburetor insulator if resistance is not correct. Specification is 60-85 ohms.

2.

With engine off, turn ignition switch to ``On'' and ensure that there is battery voltage at mixture heater harness connector. If there is no voltage,
check water temperature switch and mixture heater relay.

3.

Check continuity between terminals of water temperature switch at connector.

4.

Check mixture heater relay.
