Axle Beam: Service and Repair
REAR SUSPENSION BEAM
Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
1. Remove rear tires from vehicle using power tool.
2. Remove rear drum and brake assembly. See: Brakes and Traction Control/Drum Brake System/Brake Drum/Service and Repair/Removal and
Installation .
3. Disconnect and remove parking brake rear cable. See: Brakes and Traction Control/Parking Brake System/Parking Brake Control/Adjustments .
4. Remove wheel sensor and wheel sensor harness from wheel hub and bearing assembly and rear suspension beam, if equipped. See: Brakes and
Traction Control/Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Wheel Speed Sensor/Service and Repair/Wheel Sensor.
5. Remove rear brake tube and brake hose. See: Brakes and Traction Control/Hydraulic System/Brake Hose/Line/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Rear .
6. Remove wheel hub and bearing assembly and back plate. See: Wheel Hub/Service and Repair/Procedures See: Wheel Hub/Service and
Repair/Removal and Replacement/Rear Wheel Hub .
7. Set jack under rear suspension beam.
8. Remove both shock absorber lower bolts (A). See: Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement.
9. Remove coil springs (left/right). See: Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf )/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Rear Suspension .
10. Remove brake line retaining clip and disconnect the brake line from the rear suspension beam bracket.
11. Remove center exhaust pipe assembly and insulator. See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Exhaust System/Service and Repair/Removal And
Installation (MR20DE), See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust/Exhaust System/Service and Repair/Removal And Installation (QR25DE).
12. Remove rear suspension beam bolt and nut. See: Service and Repair/Rear Suspension.
13. Gradually lower the jack to remove rear suspension beam from vehicle.
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
Check components for deformation, cracks, and other damage, and replace if necessary.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal. For tightening torque, See: Service and Repair/Rear Suspension .
