QR25DE (4 CYL.) ENGINE HEAD GASKET HANDLING PRECAUTIONS.

APPLIED VEHICLE(S): 
2002 Altima (L31) with QR25 4CYL engine.
2002 Sentra (B15) with QR25 4CYL engine.

SERVICE INFORMATION

The new style head gasket used on the QR25DE (4 cyl.) engine is an all-metal type. It requires extra care when handling and during engine assembly.

HEAD GASKET HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

1.

Never reuse the head gasket.

Always install a new one when the head has been removed.

2.

Make sure the cylinder head and engine block surfaces are clean and free of all debris when installing a new head gasket.

Very small particles may interfere with the head gasket sealing.

3.

Make sure the cylinder head and engine block surfaces are flat.

Flatness/Distortion specification: 0.1 mm (0.004 in) or less.

4.

When handling, do not bend or dent the head gasket.

^

Bends in the metal gasket may interfere with head gasket sealing.

5.

Do not damage, scratch, or get any debris on the gasket sealant (black areas of the gasket).

Any contamination or damage to the sealant may interfere with sealing performance.

6.

When installing the cylinder head, do not dent, scratch, or otherwise damage the head gasket.

The cylinder head should be installed/positioned flat onto the head gasket. Avoid contacting the head gasket with the corner or edge of the
cylinder head. Dents, bends or scratches may interfere with sealing performance.
