Swirl Control Valve: Testing and Inspection

Swirl Control Valve Testing

1.

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the swirl control valve (SCV) diaphragm.

2.

Apply vacuum to the diaphragm.

a. If the diaphragm does not hold vacuum, replace the diaphragm and re-test.
b. If the diaphragm does hold vacuum, proceed to step 3.

3.

Remove the SCV (intake manifold) assembly See: Intake Air Collector/Service and Repair

4.

Inspect the position of the valve.

a. If the valve is closed, replace the SCV (intake manifold) and re-test. 
b. If the valve is open, proceed to step 5.

5.

Apply vacuum to the diaphragm.

a. If the valve closes, the SCV is OK.
b. If the valve does not close, replace the SCV (intake manifold) and re-test.
