Axle Shaft Assembly, Constant Velocity Type

Removal

1.

Raise and support vehicle and remove wheel.

2.

Unfasten brake caliper assembly, leaving brake line attached.

3.

Loosen but do not remove the 3 strut mounting bolts in the engine compartment.

4.

If removing driver's side shaft, turn steering wheel full right; if removing passenger's side, turn steering wheel full left. 

5.

If removing driver's side axle shaft, the passenger's side axle shaft must be removed first.

6.

Remove dust cap, cotter pin, adjusting cap, wheel lock nut, and washer from hub/bearing assembly.

7.

Disconnect tie-rod from ball joint.

8.

Separate drive shaft from knuckle by slightly tapping it.

9.

Remove the 3 lower ball joint attaching nuts.

10.

Place a drain pan underneath transaxle to catch spilling fluid.

Removal Of Right Drive Shaft

11.

Use a screwdriver to remove (pry) passenger's side driveshaft from transaxle.
