Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

    When replacing evaporator, add 2.7 oz. of new refrigerant oil on 300ZX or 2.4 oz. on all other models.

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and discharge A/C system.

2.

Remove air cleaner assembly, noting vacuum hose routing for reassembly, then remove bolt securing vacuum check valve to evaporator upper
case.

3.

Remove bolts securing evaporator upper case, Fig. 18, then remove upper case.

4.

Disconnect refrigerant lines at evaporator and plug lines and open fittings.

5.

Remove evaporator from lower case after disconnecting thermo control sensor.

6.

Disconnect and remove expansion valve from evaporator.

7.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following: 

a. Make sure that expansion valve and thermo control sensors are properly positioned.
b. Use suitable sealer to take up clearance between upper and lower evaporator case.
c. Evacuate and recharge system, then check for leaks.
