Confirm Incident "Knock" Noise.

1.

Start the engine.

2.

Connect CONSULT-II to the vehicle and select [ENGINE] > [ACTIVE TEST] > [PURG VOL CONT/V] (EVAP canister purge volume control
solenoid valve).

3.

Press [Qu].

This will change PURG VOL CONT/V form 0% to 10% and allow it to begin operating.

4.

Listen closely for a slight "knocking" noise from the engine compartment.

If knocking noise is heard, go to step 5.

^

If knocking noise is not heard, this bulletin does not apply.

Determine if Knocking is Coming From EVAP Valve and Piping

5.

Press [Qd].

This will change PURG VOL CONT/V back to 0% and stop its operation.

6.

Listen again for "knocking" noise.

If you still hear this "knocking" noise, this bulletin does not apply. Go to ASIST for further diagnostic information.

If you don't hear the "knocking" noise, shut off the engine and go to step 7.

Install New EVAP Parts

NOTE:

If your vehicle already has the "new" style service port, this bulletin does not apply (see Figure 2).
