Measure the bearing preload by pulling on one of the backing plate studs with the "Spring Scale" special tool # J-08129 at a slow/even rotation.
See Figure E41.

The spring scale should read somewhere between 1.5 to 10.8 lb.

The backing plate should begin turning when you apply somewhere between 1.5 and 10.8 lbs.

If not within this turning range, adjust the lock nut torque (see Figure E40) accordingly, within the allowable torque range given.

Bend one of the tabs on the bearing lock washer into the notch of the lock nut (see Figure E42).

Re-Install ABS Rotor Ring

Install the ABS rotor onto the axle (see Figure E43).
