OWNER NOTIFICATION 

Owners will not be notified of this recall on their vehicles by Oldsmobile Division. Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are
to be contacted by the retailer, and arrangements made to make the required correction according to the instructions contained in this bulletin.

RETAILER CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITY

Retailers are to service all vehicles involved in this campaign, at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used car inventory, or if it is in your retail facility for service, you are to ensure the
campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.

Retailers with vehicles to correct will also receive one printout of vehicle identification numbers, owner names and addresses in VIN sequence (in
California, VIN's only, no names or addresses). This data will enable you to follow-up with involved owners.

Your cooperation in completing this campaign as soon as possible will be greatly appreciated.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Raise and support the hood.

2.

Using a refractometer type tester J-26568, J-23688 or J-38633, check the concentration of the coolant in the vehicle following the procedure in
section 6B of the 1994 Oldsmobile Achieva Service Manual. Follow the directions of the manufacture of the tester being used. Unless the tester
being used has a provision for temperature correction, test the engine coolant at the same temperature that the tester is calibrated for.

If the coolant test indicates freeze protection of -34 ~F to -54 ~F (-37 ~C to -48 ~C), the coolant is correctly diluted and no further service is
necessary. Procedure to step five (5) of the service procedure.

If the coolant test indicates a freeze protection outside of the limits in step three (3) above, the cooling system should be drained, flushed and filled
following the procedure in section 6B of the service manual. (Use P/N 1052753 GM Engine Coolant, or equivalent coolant meeting GM
specification 1825-M, as required.)

NOTE:

It is recommended that the cooling system be filled with a 50/50 mixture of engine coolant and water, unless local conditions call for higher
levels of coolant (northern areas with extreme cold weather conditions. DO NOT USE ANY SOLUTION THAT IS MORE THAN 70%
ANTIFREEZE. See Table 1 for engine cooling system capacities.

Run the vehicle long enough to be sure the coolant is thoroughly mixed, and test the coolant concentration per the service manual procedure on
page 6B-9. Adjust coolant as necessary to reach recommended freeze protection level.

6.

Install a Campaign Identification Label.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL 
Each label provides space to print the campaign number and the five (5) digit retailer code of the retailer performing the campaign. Insert this
information with a typewriter or ball-point pen. When installing label, clean and dry the surface of the radiator support tie bar and apply the campaign
label where it is readily visible.

Each Campaign Identification Label is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in for
periodic servicing by the owner.
