Subframe: Service and Repair

Frame Replacement

Tools Required

J 39580  Universal Engine Support Table

Removal Procedure

1. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture    in Engine Mechanical - LX5 or Engine Support Fixture    in Engine

Mechanical - L47.

2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle   (See: Maintenance/Vehicle Lifting/Service and Repair) in General

Information.

3. Remove the front tires and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation    in Tires and Wheels.
4. Separate the ball joints from the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement    in Front Suspension.
5. Remove the ABS module from the bracket on left front. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement    in Antilock Brake System.
6. Disconnect the AIR pumps. Leave on frame. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Pump Replacement    in Engine Controls - 3.5 L.
7. Remove the air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement   (See: Spoilers, Flaps, and Air Dams/Air Dam/Service and Repair) in Body

Front End.

8. Remove the brackets securing the power steering lines to the frame. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (LX5)   Power

9. Remove the fasteners securing the front transmission mount to the frame.

10. Remove the fasteners securing the rear transmission mount to the frame.
11. Remove the fasteners securing the rack and pinion to the frame.
12. Using mechanics wire, secure the rack and pinion to the body of the vehicle.

13. Support the engine frame near the frame insulators using J 39580   or suitable jackstands.
